She said yes.

All of my wildest dreams and fantasies came true in one night. The way her body fit with mine, the look in her eyes as she came, the way she breathed my name. I was on cloud nine, and though John hadn't started firing questions at me, I knew it was evident from the smile plastered on my face—that and the fact that his sister never came home last night.

I'd never tire of waking next to her. Seeing her asleep and naked in my bed was an aphrodisiac on its own. Tearing myself away from her this morning was torture.

"You're not going to tell me what happened?" He eventually asks, a few hours later.

"I didn't think you'd want to know." I didn't want to make anyone uncomfortable or jeopardize my new relationship with Steph.

"Not that, you sicko. Tell me the PG-13 details." We both lean against the hood of the Old Man Thomas' beat-up pickup truck.

"Well, I proposed." This, he already knows. I had asked for his blessing at Red's the night I came clean about my feelings for her.

He rolls his eyes. "Geez, you don't waste any time."

"She said yes." I continue.

He lifts his eyebrows. "That easy, huh. Just like that?"

"Mmmhmmm. Then I took her back out to the Morris Lighthouse." It was hands down the best night of my life and the best date I'd ever had.

"Well, Congrats, Brother. And, I know that I don't need to say this, but… If you ever hurt my sister, I will dismember you and throw you off a dock somewhere."

He knows that I treasure Stephanie with every fiber of my being, and I would never hurt her. "You know damn well that you don't have to say that to me, but message received."

He shakes my hand, slapping me on the back in bro-hug fashion, congratulating me. "You sure it was a good idea to ask her so soon? I mean, she did just end things with Dave."

I shrug my shoulders. I thought about that too, there was no way I could survive being the rebound guy, but my heart knew our connection went deeper than maybe we even realized yet. "We both know what we want. What will more time change?"

"True." He agrees.

I don't regret any of my choices, but I am worried now that the future of the expansion is in jeopardy, solely because of me. I don't believe for a second that Dave will be a man of his word and let us still have the lot. I hear his words over and over in my head. May the better man win. I doubt Dave loses very often or that he just walks away when he does. I voice these concerns to John. "Hey, John. What do you think will happen now, with the lot?"

He looks pensive for a minute, carefully considering his words. "We should find a backup." He says, making the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
